TREES ARE GONE AGAIN:
May 31 2008
Without warning or even the consideration of a phone call to discuss the deed, Parks Department recieved a phone call from Jimi Hughes ex co-founder of the ex Ferry Point Park West Coalition.
He said that he was told by an anonymous civic minded person that this person decided to up root the trees that were replanted on May 17 without consulting anyone, replanted them somewhere else in the park.
Friends of Ferry Point Park group is disgusted!
"Friends" regrets that we had to find out the hard way that there are people involved in this park with "baggage" that strike out at the world in strange ways. Ways that don't make sense to a normal person with courage who can confront their anger and deal with it man to man.
We are again put in an embarassing position of having to notify the Families ( that wanted these trees together as a group of Memorial trees that would represent the Throggs Neck Persons lost on the above monument) that they are gone again.\
Vandalism of the grove has been upsetting to say the least:
Parks Department turns the bad to good by solving the problem of the TN Grove:
June 20, 2008
Gail Wittwer part of the design group from the Parks Dept. joins Dotti and Jack Lynch to discuss the location of the 15 replacement trees.
There are 3 existing trees in a triangle that would make a wonderful grove that can be fenced in and mulched for future daffodil plantings. This would be a great entrance way to the Park.
The Triangle will be reduced in size by 6 feet set back from the paths to allow for the construction involved in the near future rennovation of the paths.
The Parks Dept. will plant , compost, mulch and water the grove. A sign of the same design as the Hilltop "View shed Grove" will be placed to blend the grove into the rest of the Memorial Forest.
This sign may have a map on it that indicates the position of the Hilltop Grove?
All Parties involved seem to be glad that this ill fated grove has finally found a home that is in the design of the Park.
Michael (Mangaer of Ferry Point Park) and other Parks person stop by for discussion with Gail.

First wave of Memorial Forest Being Planted ...mostly on Northern End of West side of Park along the Greenway, around the natural wooded area, over to the BBQ area and up to the waterfront"cozy cove".
The West side of the west side was planted up to the second baseball field, along the Fragmites and into the existing tree line parallel to the bridge.

Cheers amoungst one time friends that discussed the future of Ferry Point as a open air restaurant, maybe built on a floating barge, with kayak and water taxi nearby to bring people from all boroughs and the new Yankee Stadium to Golf, to enjoy a great meal, and walk through the only 9/11 Living Memorial Forest in NYC.
CHEERS TO THE BEAUTIFUL MEMORIAL FOREST_____________
